Staff from The HICA Group recently completed a tough 24 miles walk to raise money for Shine Fund. A team of six staff tackled the challenging Yorkshire three peaks trail, overcoming the weather and sore feet to complete the walk and raise an amazing amount of over £1000 which will help fund activities, specialist equipment and events for HICAs residents.
After a rainy five o’clock start, the sponsored walk group embarked on an extraordinary journey, making remarkable progress throughout the day. Their adventure commenced with the conquer of Pen Y Ghent, the first peak of the day. Despite the rain making the top section of the climb a bit tricky, turning it into a scramble up slippery rocks, the group pushed forward. In less time than anticipated, they triumphantly reached the summit, after walking through clouds and completing the ascent in under two hours.
Upon descending Pen Y Ghent, the group met with the safety team at Ribblehead, a perfect pit stop for replenishing supplies and tending to blistered feet. Joined briefly by the safety team, the group embarked on the second leg of their journey, enjoying the magnificent views of Ribblehead viaduct. The safety team bid their farewell, preparing to meet the group at the next designated spot.
Continuing their venture, the group tackled the long ascent of Whernside, Yorkshire’s highest peak, rewarded with awe-inspiring vistas along the way. The descent from Whernside proved to be a steep and demanding ordeal, placing strain on weary knee joints. However, fortified by a break and resupplied by the safety team, the group forged ahead, determined to conquer Ingleborough, the final peak. Undeterred by aching muscles and sore feet, their unwavering determination to finish propelled them forward.
12 hours and 55 minutes after starting, the group crossed the finish line, eagerly anticipating a well-deserved rest in the pub. Everyone successfully completed the challenge and raised an astonishing amount for the cause.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all our walkers, whose determination and positive attitude made this challenge a resounding success and a wonderful team-building experience. A special thank you goes to our esteemed partners, Apetito, Turner Price, and Weborchard, for their invaluable support. With great anticipation, we look forward to next year’s challenge, where we will continue to push boundaries and make a difference together.
