The latest HICA quiz league has recently reached its conclusion. The stimulating and socially enriching event brought together six of our care homes: Tamarix Lodge in Withernsea presented the Tamarix Tearaways, The Grange in Buckshaw Retirement Village near Chorley fielded the Buckshaw Brains, Prospect House in Goole proudly entered The Goolies, Red House in Bridlington showcased the Seasiders, Elm Tree Court in Hill contributed the Elm Tree Elite, and The Wolds Care Centre in Louth featured the Wolds Wizards.
Throughout the event, which took place over a couple of months, participants experienced seven meticulously curated quizzes. Each quiz comprised 30 questions spanning a diverse range of genres, including the ever-popular music rounds and the task of identifying films based on brief cinematic excerpts. Teams, comprised of both residents and staff, convened virtually over the Microsoft Teams platform.
Beyond the event, the quizzes served as a conduit for social cohesion, cultivating a sense of community and connectivity among residents and staff. The carefully crafted questions, drawn from varied genres, not only tested cognitive acumen but also served as poignant catalysts for reminiscence, affording participants an avenue to revisit memories and collectively partake in a shared journey of nostalgia.
After the seven quizzes past champions Elm Tree Elite again took the top spot and were crowned champions. The final scores were:
The Winners received a cash prize, with all entrants also receiving a smaller amount for taking part.
Mark Midgley, HICA’s Group Hospitality & Wellbeing Manager, and the quizmaster and setter, shared his sentiments on the success of the quiz league:
“As the Quizmaster and question setter, observing the collective enthusiasm and engagement from both residents and staff has been an immensely gratifying experience. The Quiz League not only stands as a celebration of intellectual prowess but also serves as a poignant testament to the resilience and interconnectedness of our community spirit. The joy it imparts and the cognitive benefits it gives residents solidifies its place as one of HICA’s main joint activities. The quiz will return in 2024.”
