HICA nursing care home, The Wolds Care Centre on North Holme Road in Louth has been awarded Platinum Status for the Gold Standards Framework, which recognises health and social care providers delivering quality care in the final year of life. The Award will be given as part of the Gold Standards Framework Virtual Awards on 5th May. Winning it for the second time, The Wolds Care Centre is one of only 42 services across the county which will receive the prestigious quality hallmark.
Kerry Leaning, manager of the nursing home, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this prestigious award. We have always prided ourselves on the excellent care we provide the people who live with us. This award has recognised this and helps us take our care to the next level, ensuring that people enjoy their lives, receiving the high quality care they want in their chosen place, right up to the end of their life.”
Care homes that have received the Gold Standard Framework Award have demonstrated a high quality of care that they provide. To be accredited, the home had to show that it met strict criteria in 20 different areas, ranging from leadership and support to dignity and respect, as well as submit a portfolio of evidence.
Kerry continued, “Everyone who works in the home, whether they are nurses or activities coordinator or catering staff, are involved in regular reviews with the residents. Each aspect of their lives are considered including their personal interests, care preferences and spiritual beliefs. Staff talk to residents and their families about their end-of-life care, giving them the opportunity to make decisions and say what they want. This helps residents and their families feel secure in the knowledge that they will be comfortable and their preferences considered at all times.”
Before the pandemic hit, the Gold Standard Framework provided face-to-face workshops, but have successfully adapted and moved online to adhere to COVID-19 regulations. The training has been a huge success, and has supported both families and patients to discuss end of life care planning and what matters to them at the end of life.
Director of Operations at HICA Heather Joy added, “We are incredibly proud of the entire team at The Wolds Care Centre in Louth. Their tireless dedication and commitment to their residents is a real testament to the culture and ethos of The HICA Group, where peace, dignity and compassion underpins the work we do. We are truly proud of our teams who continually support those who are near the end of their lives, assisting some of the most vulnerable members of our communities, helping people ‘become families again’. We are thrilled and delighted to have been awarded platinum status for the Gold Standards Framework and are most privileged to receive this.”
